What we talk about when we talk about haiku

No idea, really. I received a marvelous book from my philosopher for Valentine’s day- The Essential Haiku: Versions of Basho, Buson & Issa, by Robert Hass. I have been reading it on and off and I’m starting to try and turn any given moment into a haiku of sorts. Some attempts I will post below, inspired by life of late.

Your tangled black hair,
       sudden in my mind-
 strange comfort!

O’dark thirty:
       the pleasure of not sleeping,
a child-like habit.

A softly scraping,
       cylindrical memory
will dispense Pringles!

Her gold and her grief –
     are indistinguishable,
 Delhi divorcee.
